It is based on breath and movement combined, never being without each other! The breath is deep and thorassic, the movements dynamic, the focus deep. Around 75 positions linked by the breath (James makes you do four more!) Inhale is an upward movement, exhale a downward movement. Linking the breath and the movement together, the next stage is the bandhas. Physical holds within the muscular structure that become energetic. Upon the movements going into the "lower brain" memory, and the release psycologically of the body, the subconscious mind and conscious mind dip into each other slightly causing a deep and profound effect. One to two minutes of this effect will inspire practice for years!
Astanga Vinyasa Yoga is the hardest form of yoga you can do. Hard in a physical sense, yes, but in a mental sense more so, To believe you can do, are worth it, or physically able, your mind will give you a myriad reasons not to, and if you accept this, you failed before you got yourself into the class! Three months of seeing-how-it-goes would be a good start! What you can do, can't do, who you are, what you believe, eat, drink, all changes when your mind is leashed. You find out what and who you are not what your mind defines you as but as the person you are! Some people never get to this point as there are choices to actually look at these things. It can be a phsyical practice or deeper than that, it can be supplementary or done 6 times a week self practice (recommended!), you can use it as a supplementary to other exercise and training, you can be healed completely or injuries and disease, or you can find ways to maintain them better, the difference with all these people is choice and what you believe you CAN do, what you need to do and who you are as a person. ok?
Could you manage to do this? See what your minds says......... How about this? You get my drift? Its all psycological when you start because your very life has been defined by your mind! welcome to psychotherapy through bodywork! The history of it? The difference of the types? start seeking! |
